Tipperary Station Embraces Agtech to Tackle Weeds and Boost Cattle Quality
Tipperary Group of Stations is teaming up with James Cook University and Sensand Technologies on a $1.5 million, 3-year project to improve weed management and cattle productivity using cutting-edge technology. Funded by the Commonwealth Government’s CRC Projects Program, the initiative will deploy IoT networks, drones, and data analytics across Tipperary’s 384,000-hectare property.
The project aims to create strategic, data-driven weed control methods that save time, cut costs, and enhance environmental outcomes. Sensand is also developing a smart ag dashboard to unify data and tools for on-ground impact, while JCU will lead spatial modelling and sensor integration.
“This isn’t just research for the shelf—it’s real tech solving real problems,” said Tipperary’s Business Development Manager, Tom Polkinghorne.
